The Rossville Inn Bed & Breakfast

A gracious Pre-Civil War home located in Hamilton's Rossville Historic District, the Inn is surrounded by Victorian-inspired gardens and lies one block from the Miami River. S.K. Lighter, a businessman who owned a frame shop and stable on this site built this Greek Revival home in 1859.

In the 1920's the property was acquired by Butler County and used as a Boys' Home. At the onset of World War II it became a 24-hour daycare center for the children of the many women working in the factories of Hamilton. After the war, it was operated as a rooming house until purchased by the Piraino family in the 1960's. Originally it was to be Mrs. Piraino's interior design studio and workrooms, with apartments on the second floor, but after work began the family was swept up by the possibilities and decided to make it their home and studio.

Jackie and Bill Groth moved in the week before Christmas, 1991. They too had been captured by the charm and potential of this home. Aided by a preservation architect, contractor and friends, The Rossville Inn was extensively renovated and opened for business as a Bed and Breakfast in 1998.

Influences of both the past and present are apparent in the guest rooms. Eleven and a half foot ceilings, original hardwood floors, and decorative woodwork have been preserved. Furnishings and decor are reminiscent of the home's historic past, while modern conveniences have been incorporated. Each room is equipped with telephone, cable television, wiring for computer and fax, writing desk and a private bath.

Relax in the privacy of your room or in the common rooms, which include a parlor, billiard room, and formal dining room. Look forward to a delightful gourmet breakfast elegantly presented. For a change of pace, take time for refreshments in the gazebo and a stroll through the gardens.
